Clematis Wattii II - Using the same
lino as for the 4 colour version, this tiny edition of just three
prints is, I'm happy to admit, largely experimental. Sometimes I'll
instincitvely take additional impressions of the first cut of a
lino in various colours that I don't intend to
use in the main edition. This is because the reduction method of
linocutting doesn't allow me the luxury of returning later to re-print
or experiment, as by then, much of the surface of the single piece
of lino will have been cut away. I knew that the strength of the
composition of this print would allow a very simple two colour print
to 'work', albeit in a different to way to the four colour version.
The rich gold balances well with the white (paper colour) and the
black, as it sits almost in the middle of the tonal range between
the black and white.
