Diwrnod o Hydref, Rhaeadr Arthog (An Autumn day, Arthog Falls) - A new location a few miles from Dolgellau, which didn't disappoint. The difficult bit was chosing which part of the falls to draw. Every bend in the path that follows the river higher and higher, offered new views but it was this section, almost at the top which won the day, this time. After the seven colours of 'Wild, wild wood', I wanted to try to limit my palette to five colours to keep things as simple as possible. It means having to be very decisive about the tones which can result (not always but often) in giving the final image a strong graphic feel. The palest grey is purposely used to draw the eye to the area beyond the main waterfall, whereas the blacks are mainly confined to the lower half of the image to create weight and stability.
