detail Capel Carmel

Capel Carmel, Conwy - July 2013 was very hot and sunny in North Wales and this, amongst other things, triggered this use of a bright, summery palette. I wanted to use as few colours as possible, but chose to use a very pale yellow-grey tone for the chapel to differentiate it from the white painted houses that line Llewelyn Street and to stop it from leaping out of the image. I considered including one or two clouds in the sky but it was obvious at the planning stage that clouds were simply too fussy for this composition. I also removed some overly complicated block/cobble patterns from the street surface at proofing stage, to ensure the focus wasn't drawn away from the forms of the shadows.
