Plas Brondanw - Clough Williams-Ellis' house and gardens is located within the Snowdonia National Park, near the village of Garreg, a few miles south of Beddgelert. Plas Brondanw isn't as famous as its near neighbour at Portmeirion, but is equally quirky and full of surprises. As a subject for printmaking, I'm spoilt for choice - there are perfectly clipped hedges, pleached trees and topiary yews as well as more colourful and lush borders. This image focuses on a large urn, framed by an arch cut into a high hedge. The eye is led to the urn by the strict line of the trimmed box hedge on the right hand side, which contrasts sharply with the overhanging rhododendron and fallen flowers on the left.
