White hellebore - This isn't the
first time I've looked at these hellebores with a printmakers' eye.
They faithfully come to life every winter in the garden even though
I don't do what the gardening books say I should do to make them
flourish. This year, just in case they decide to punish me for neglect,
I decided it was time to include them in the ongoing flower series
of linocuts. I've found, over time, that the less complex my original
drawing, the more descriptive the end result can be, so my aim with
the drawing for this print was to pare it down as far as possible
and use just three colours to describe the form and structure. As
with the Clematis Wattii edition,
pattern and design are important elements in this print.
